CARDINALS

Peralta on 10-day DL

MILWAUKEE -- Veteran St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Jhonny Peralta, off to a .120 start with no runs batted in, has been placed on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to April 16 because of an upper respiratory problem, the club announced Thursday afternoon before its game with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Left-hander Tyler Lyons, who had been on the disabled list and had made three minor league rehab starts at Class AAA Memphis as he continued his recovery from offseason knee surgery, was activated, giving the Cardinals 13 pitchers -- at least for the moment.

Lyons, who last pitched on Monday, allowed only two runs in 14 innings over his minor league starts.

Greg Garcia and Jedd Gyorko are likely to share the third-base spot in the absence of Peralta, 34, who last played April 15. Garcia, who played shortstop Wednesday as the Cardinals completed a three-game sweep of Pittsburgh, is batting .227 but has a .370 on-base percentage. Gyorko, who started at third Wednesday, is hitting .226 with two home runs.

METS

Familia returns

NEW YORK -- New York Mets closer Jeurys Familia has rejoined the team after serving a 15-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy.

New York activated Familia before Thursday night's game against Philadelphia. The Mets made a series of roster moves and cleared space for him.

Manager Terry Collins said he'd like to use Familia right away, if possible. Familia said he was eager to get back on the mound in any role.

Familia, 27, led the majors with a team-record 51 saves last year. The suspension cost him $730,328 of his $7,425,000 salary.

Familia took part in spring training and recently pitched two scoreless innings in the minors while preparing for his return.

Familia was arrested last October on a simple assault charge after his wife was left with scratches on her chest and a bruise on her cheek. A judge dismissed charges in December after Familia's wife told a prosecutor her husband did not hurt her.

Wright on 60-day DL

NEW YORK -- The Mets have shifted third baseman David Wright to the 60-day disabled list, further delaying his return following neck surgery.

The Mets made a series of roster moves before playing Philadelphia on Thursday night.

Wright, 34, played some in spring training but wasn't active once the regular season began. The oft-injured team captain was limited to 37 games last year, batting .226 with 7 home runs and 14 RBI.

Wright went through pregame drills on the field and took batting practice Wednesday. Manager Terry Collins said Wright played catch for the first time in two or three weeks.

Wright is trying to rebuild his arm strength.

"If David Wright could throw the ball across the infield, he could play today," Collins said Wednesday. "It's about getting that arm back and how long that's going to take, no one knows."

RED SOX

Price still sore

TORONTO -- Boston Red Sox Manager John Farrell said pitcher David Price has been dealing with "soreness" in his recovery from an injured left elbow.

Price threw on flat ground for the second consecutive day before Thursday afternoon's game against Toronto. He is scheduled to throw a bullpen session in Baltimore today.

Price was the 2012 AL Cy Young Award winner with Tampa Bay. He was 17-9 with a 3.99 ERA last year, his first with Boston. He felt discomfort in his elbow after a two-inning simulated game in February.

Price threw three bullpen sessions over six days last week, the last on Saturday. He was to have thrown to hitters while the team was in Toronto but those plans were shelved. He took three days off before playing catch Wednesday.

Price is in the second season of a $217 million, seven-year contract.

CUBS

Schwarber returns

CINCINNATI -- Kyle Schwarber's return to Great American Ballpark this weekend will be special after he missed nearly all of last year while recovering from left knee surgery.

Schwarber enjoyed one of the greatest games of his young career against the Reds in Cincinnati on July 21, 2015, when he went 4-for-7 with a game-tying home run in the ninth inning and a game-winning home run in the 13th.

Schwarber accomplished the feat in front of several family members and friends who were deprived of the chance last season to watch him play one hour south of his hometown of Middletown, Ohio, because of his injury.

"It will be a lot of fun to see friends, family, the whole nine yards there," Schwarber said. "And I have a new nephew, so I get to see him. I'm really looking forward to that.

"You don't realize how much you miss your family until you see them. It's that kind of deal. I'm ready to see a few people and be able to catch up with everyone."
