Where I live: Rivercliff Apartments, in the Riverdale neighborhood of Little Rock.

Occupation: I worked for 35 years with volunteer adult literacy programs and established the Literacy Council of Jefferson County. I moved to Syracuse, N.Y., to work at the national headquarters of ProLiteracy, an international adult literacy organization. I served as its director of field services for the U.S. programs. When I retired, I moved to Little Rock to be near my children and grandchildren. I presently serve on the board of directors for Arkansas Literacy Councils.

Favorite space is: my balcony.

Why? When I decided to downsize, I wanted to live in an apartment with historical architectural details and a big view. My apartment is a small, cozy space (875 square feet) with floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony overlooking the Arkansas River, the downtown skyline and the Capitol. I sit with my morning coffee watching the sunrise, eat my lunch as the tug boats push barges up and down the river, and listen to the city slow down as the city lights up the evening skyline. The surrounding trees frame my views and offer branches for the songbirds to queue up as they wait for their turns at the feeders. I feel lucky and very grateful to live so high in the sky where my birds and I can see eye to eye.
