God and Cheerios

The Rev. Betsy Singleton Snyder, a Methodist pastor, missionary and wife of a former U.S. congressman, who had her first child at age 44 and then found out at 47 that she was carrying triplets, will discuss her book, Stepping on Cheerios: Find God in the Chaos and Clutter of Life, noon today, Sturgis Hall, Clinton School of Public Service, 1200 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock. ‘Fashion Event’

The North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce will host “The Fashion Event” — a cocktail reception, followed by a runway show — 7 p.m. Thursday at the Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub, 201 E. Broadway, North Little Rock. Tickets are $75, $125 for VIP (which includes a private lounge with a unique view of the runway, specialty appetizers, private servers, VIP swag bags and preferred seating for the runway show).

Professional models and “Chamber Celebrity” models will showcase spring fashion items from central Arkansas boutiques. The event includes music and lighting from Klassic Entertainment, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, a beer garden and entertainment from Arkansas AcroYoga, plus a jewelry raffle from Rogers Jewelers and Wilkerson Jewelers. A portion of the event’s proceeds will go to PATH: Partners Against Trafficking Humans. Dress is business casual. Masters of ceremonies will be Justin Acri of radio station KABZ -FM, 103.7, “The Buzz,” and Melinda Mayo of KATV.

Living Treasure

The Arkansas Arts Council will honor tapestry artist Louise Halsey, whom it recently named its 2017 Arkansas Living Treasure, at a public reception, 4-6 p.m. May 4 at New Deal Studios and Gallery, 2003 S. Island opera

Opera in the Rock will hold auditions, by appointment only, for William Grant Still’s opera Troubled Island, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. May 20 at Christ Episcopal Church, 509 Scott St., Little Rock. The cast includes eight black principals and eight chorus members. Prepare three to four arias (at least one in English) that best represent your voice. An accompanist is available for a $15 fee, payable to Opera in the Rock. All roles are paid. Production dates are Sept. 15-16.
