Fort Smith airport picks new director

FORT SMITH -- Michael Griffin was named Wednesday as director of the Fort Smith Regional Airport after the retirement of the previous director.

The airport commission said in an announcement that Griffin has been with the airport for 10 years, serving the majority of that time as the airport's director of operations. He was named interim airport director in early April.

In his new role, Griffin will be responsible for the daily operations and long-range development of the airport.

He has a bachelor's of science degree in organizational management from John Brown University, according to the commission's announcement, and is a certified member of the American Association of Airport Executives. He is also president of the Arkansas Airport Operators Association.
