The Muslima of Uark and the Muslim Students Association at the University of Arkansas presents Mona Minkara speaking at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Giffels Auditorium in Old Main on the University of Arkansas campus. Minkara, a computational chemistry post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Minnesota, will speak on her challenges to pursue higher education. She lost her sight at age 7. Mount Sequoyah Assembly in Fayetteville, 150 N. Skyline Drive, offers the "Awaken" wellness and yoga festival May 6-7. In addition to yoga classes, sessions include a juicing workshop and a mala-making workshop. Cost is $55 for one day or $100 for both days, with lunch included. "The Kid Zone" is free.

Sequoyah United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, 1910 N. Old Wire Road, presents "Navigating the Path to Retirement." The four-part series includes sessions with Don Baker with First Financial Services, speaking on financial security, Monday; and Sara Bartlett, a senior care consultant, speaking on housing stability, May 8. BENTON COUNTY

Bentonville Church of the Nazarene, 220 N.W. A St., hosts the "Compassion Experience" by Compassion International, a Christian child-development organization that works to release children from poverty. The 1,700-square-foot exhibit space will be set up in the church parking lot Friday to May 8. Visitors will take self-guided journeys into replicas of the homes and environments of two Compassion beneficiaries in Guatemala and Uganda. Compassion serves more than 1.8 million children in 25 countries.

First United Methodist Church in Rogers, 307 W. Elm St., presents The Voices of Resurrection singing with the local chancel choir during worship services at 8:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. May 7. The 32-member, auditioned, choir comes from the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kan. Kevin Bogan, formerly of Fayetteville, is the music director.

First Presbyterian Church in Rogers, 1901 S. 26th St., sponsors the Leslie Shupe Art School at 10 a.m. every Saturday, May 6 to June 10. Classes are for adults and children ages 7 and older, including acrylics, taught by Joe Lay; water color, taught by Anita Carroll; oil by Debi Ortega; and drawing and pastels by Cindy Shepherd. The Neighborhood Church in Bentonville, 2003 S.W. Regional Airport Road, plans a parking lot sale May 19-20, with proceeds to benefit Mission: Guatemala. Donated items are accepted, with pickup of larger items available.

Unity Church of the Ozarks, 902 S.W. Second St., Suite E, Bentonville, marks Unity Friendship Month with "The Value of a Friend" at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The monthly potluck fellowship is served after the worship service.

Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd., offers an observance for the National Day of Prayer from noon to 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel. In addition, the chapel will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for those wanting to pray.

The church currently accepts registration for a summer arts camp June 19-23. The camp, for children entering first to sixth grades, includes classes on hand chimes, guitar, line dancing, card making, watercolor collage, weaving, junk sculpture and more. Cost is $10 per student, with scholarships available for families enrolling multiple children. Registration closes June 1.

The Shepherd's Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday. The pantry needs donations of toilet paper.

Presbyterian Women gather with Church Women United to celebrate May Fellowship Day at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Forest Hill Church, 1702 Bella Vista Blvd. Heather Finley, chairperson of the advisory board for the Gravette public schools, will speak on the "Bright Futures" program.

The Presbyterian Singles gather for lunch at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The church collects food items Sunday for the Helping Hands Food Pantry in Bentonville. Requested items include canned or powdered milk and 100-percent fruit juices. The Care and Share trailer from Gravette will sit in the church parking lot Monday and Tuesday, collecting gently used donations for its thrift store.

New Life Christian Church in Bella Vista, 103 Riordan Road, sponsors its New Life Students in hosting a spaghetti dinner and dessert auction as a fundraiser at 5 p.m. May 7. Tickets are $5 per individual or $20 per family. Proceeds go to the junior and senior high "Christ in Youth" worship conferences this summer.

The church accepts registration for its vacation Bible school, "Summer XP," running from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 4-8. Enrollment for the fall session of Little Sprouts Preschool also is open.

The Lyrique Quintette, a resident woodwind quintet of students and faculty from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, will perform at 7 p.m. May 9 in the sanctuary. The concert is free, but an offering will be collected. The group has toured throughout the United States, as well as Thailand, Germany and Canada.

Bible Reading Ministry International, based in Green Forest, presents the eighth annual Carroll County Bible Reading Marathon, running from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday to May 11. The event begins with a picnic at the National Day of Prayer event Thursday on the grounds of The Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs, with participants encouraged to dress in styles of the 1800s. Times of prayer for seven areas of influence in the nation will be offered by area pastors and professionals, including State Rep. Bob Ballinger for government; Mitchell Scitern of Towering Oaks Church in Berryville on religion; Erick Diaz of Arvest Bank, business and finance; the Rev. Janice Foster of First Christian Church in Eureka Springs, family; the Rev. Van Edwards of First Baptist Church in Green Forest, education; Bob Ahart of Kerusso, media and communications; and the Rev. Mark Galloway of First Christian Church in Eureka Springs, military.
