Economics Arkansas Foundation luncheon honors three businessmen

Three longtime Arkansas business leaders were honored April 20 with Leadership in Free Enterprise (L.I.F.E.) Awards: Charles Nabholz of Nabholz Corp., Don Munro of Munro & Co. and Robert A. Young III, who retired from ArcBest Corp. The luncheon -- hosted by the Economics Arkansas Foundation -- was held at the Little Rock Marriott.

Foundation board member Ray Dillon said of the three, "They are not only entrepreneurs but visionary business leaders who have made an impact -- a lasting impact -- in Arkansas and beyond." Dillon was master of ceremonies.

Executive director Sue Owens said the mission of Economics Arkansas is to promote economic literacy in Arkansas and equip students with the skills they need to participate in the economy. She said the importance of teaching students economics is, "it equips young people with the essential decision-making skills to exercise the economic freedom this country provides. Arkansas students have the opportunity to live the life of their dreams, but it is up to us to give them the skills to do so."

The program included presentations by retired master economics teacher Linda Haley and Phillip Carlock with students from Stephens Elementary School.
