Museum of Discovery hosts adults after hours once a month

The last Thursday of each month, Little Rock's Museum of Discovery provides one of the best (and inexpensive) opportunities for grown people to come out and play. And hundreds of adults usually take the museum up on it.

The July 27 edition of the museum's Science After Dark was no exception.

Themed "Stranger Things and Totally Rad Science!" and based on Netflix's 1980s-era "science fiction/horror" series Stranger Things, the event provided attendees with beer and pizza for sale, several scientific-experiment demonstrations -- "you never know what will sprout, pop, fizzle, or glow," beckoned the promotional literature -- and, of course, a free hand in the museum's nearly 100 interactive exhibits.

Visitors of all ages and from all walks of life literally pulled their weight via chairs and pulleys, made light bulbs come on with bicycle pedaling power, made dust dance to music, designed their own pinball-machine experience and saw human-ability extenders showcased in the Human Plus feature exhibit, which will be at the museum through Sept. 10.

Billed as Arkansas' oldest museum and premier science and technology center, the Museum of Discovery has a mission "to ignite a passion for science, technology and math in a dynamic, interactive environment."
