SUMMER SUPPER

Feast for 40

Quapaw Quarter Association members dine at The Root Cafe

The Root Cafe was the site of this year's first Summer Supper by the Quapaw Quarter Association on July 30. The five-course dinner with wine pairings -- limited to 40 diners -- quickly sold out. The cafe features locally sourced food, and the dinner's printed menu detailed the local farms, orchards and creameries that supplied the ingredients for the meal.

Guests were seated family-style at long tables decorated with colorful tablecloths and flowers in soda bottles.

The first course consisted of roasted beets and grapes served with smoked panisse, citrus puree and Pimenton vinaigrette, followed by watermelon gazpacho served with sorrel mousse and watermelon rind pickle. The third course was figs and peaches served with granola, thyme and feta cheese. The entree was beef tenderloin served with broccoli and potatoes, followed by a dessert of coconut panna cotta.

Sponsors were association board chairman Chuck Cliett, Laura Sergeant, Barry Coplin, Ashli Ahrens, Kathi Jones, Molly McNulty, Jean Block and executive director Patricia Blick.

The next supper is Aug. 24 at The Edgemont House in North Little Rock. The final supper will be Sept. 23 on the lawn of the William E. Woodruff house and will include tours of the antebellum mansion.
