Janessa Rogerson

Where I live: chancellor's residence, University of Arkansas at Little Rock

Occupation: first lady and ambassador, UALR

My favorite space is: our living room

Why: Sharing our lives and our home is a privilege we embrace. I am grateful for the opportunity it offers to share my passion for entertaining and the chance to be a part of the amazing work my husband, Andrew, is doing.

We welcome guests first into our living room, a large space with a view to the north of the Jack Stephens Center, and to the south, a lovely park-like setting. It is an L-shaped room, with the formal dining room a part of the view. The dining room table and chairs, and the china and silver cabinets, have all been handed down from chancellor to chancellor, and there is a lovely sense of continuity and decorum about those pieces. All the paintings are Andrew's work, and I love his landscapes. We have things that belonged to our mothers and from Scotland [Andrew Rogerson's homeland]. It's a blend of our pasts and our present.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: get new furniture! Our furniture is not quite right for this house, and I long to find two perfect couches and a few other key pieces to provide more seating and make the room work a little better for larger groups.
