Club Sports Bring The Unusual To UA Competition

The UA Club Sports program is open to any student currently enrolled in classes as well as any faculty, staff and spouses. Individual clubs may have more specific eligibility due to their structure and may hold tryouts for teams. There are currently 29 active club sports on the UA campus. These are some of the more unusual ones:

Ballroom Dance

WHAT -- Consists of two groups --a social class or beginner group and a competitive team; a partner is not necessary.

WHERE -- Social class meets on Thursdays 8-10 p.m. in Room 216 of the HPER building. Competition team meets on Mondays from 8-10 p.m. at the same location (w)

HOW MUCH -- Cost is $45 for the beginner class and $80 for competition team

Bass Fishing

WHAT -- A point-based club that determines members that will be sent to championship tournaments. It holds monthly qualifying tournaments, which require all members to participate in order to be sent to other events.

HOW MUCH -- Dues are $100 per year.

Men's Ice Hockey

WHAT -- Team competes in the Southeastern Collegiate Hockey Conference and has won the conference tournament three times and regular season title four times, staying consistently ranked in the top 10 in the South Region.

WHERE -- All home games are played at the Jones Center, 922 East Emma Avenue in Springdale

HOW MUCH -- Dues are based on a graduated system where incoming freshman for dues are $2,775.00 for the year. Fees include jerseys (game and practice), socks (game and practice), an Arkansas shell, helmet, tape, transportation to/from away games, team warm-ups, and all practice and game ice for the year. Tickets are $3 with a student ID and $10 for general admission

Lacrosse

WHAT -- Women's club travels and competes against colleges in the Central Plains Women's Lacrosse League four to five times throughout the spring season. Men's club was established in 2005 and is a member of the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association, which now includes two divisions, nine conferences and nearly 200 teams. It is part of the Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference. The club is in the Western Division of the GRLC together with Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, and Nebraska.

HOW MUCH -- Dues are $650 per year for the men's club. For the women's club, dues are $75 for first-year players and $50 for returning players first semester and $50 for second semester

Rugby

WHAT -- The men's club is the oldest on campus, started in 1971, and competes in the top division for university rugby. The women's club was re-established in 2012 and plays in the Mid-America Rugby Conference against such schools as Missouri, Central Missouri, Oklahoma State and Truman State.

HOW MUCH -- Dues for the men's club are $200 per year and $110 for the women's club.

Water Ski

WHAT -- The club focuses on three areas of competitive water skiing -- slalom, jump and trick. No tryouts or skill level necessary to join.

WHERE -- Practices are held at Cedar Creek Ski Park located south of Elkins

HOW MUCH -- Dues are $150 per semester

Men's Roller Hockey

WHAT -- Established in 2013 and consists of a 10-man team. Finished in the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association elite eight in 2015 and 2016.

HOW MUCH -- Dues are $500 annually

Ultimate

WHAT -- It's a non-contact team sport similar to football using a flying disc. The men's club was established in the 1990s and today is comprised of more than 30 members, who travel to tournaments all over the region and country. The women's club travels to approximately 10 regional and national tournaments annually.

HOW MUCH -- Dues are $150 per semester for the men's club; women's club dues are $65 per semester
