The 47 rooms at the state's largest hotel that had been closed because of safety violations have passed inspection, Hot Springs officials said Friday.

Earlier this week, the Hot Springs Sentinel-Record reported that the Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa would be forced to close by Nov. 8 if it didn't correct problems at the facility. The newspaper cited a letter from the city's chief building official to the Arlington's general manager Bob Martorana.

Among the violations listed during an Aug. 8 inspection were the use of extension cords, and faulty ground-fault-circuit interrupters that are intended to protect against electrical shock.

In a Friday news release, the city said the hotel, at 239 Central Ave. in downtown Hot Springs, has completed all required safety repairs. All rooms passed inspection by chief building official Mike Scott, according to the statement.

The hotel has 478 rooms.

Hotel officials were also informed this week that they must fix problems with the exterior of the building.

"The plaster is cracked and could come loose, especially during the freeze-and-thaw cycle this winter," Scott said this week.

The city wants the problems corrected before the temperature drops below freezing.
