Man shot, killed at Buffalo River

Authorities say a man was killed Saturday night on the Buffalo National River during a shooting that involved at least one officer.

The National Park Service said Sunday in a news release that the shooting occurred in the Lower Buffalo Ranger District of the Buffalo National River, which is in the Harrison area.

Authorities have not released the name of the man who was shot and killed. No officers were injured, according to the National Park Service.

An investigation into the shooting is being conducted by the Searcy County sheriff's office, state police and the National Park Service.

The National Park Service and Arkansas State Police would not release any other details Sunday.

The Buffalo River is the nation's first national river and a popular tourist destination, with 1.8 million visitors last year.

It flows freely for 135 miles, stretching from Newton County through Searcy and Marion counties, where it runs into the White River. Nearly the entire watershed is in Newton and Searcy counties.
