Forecast: cloudy, maybe

Last week, some of us were curious if we'd get a good look at the eclipse come Monday afternoon. And some of us were trying to decide whether to make the trek to Missouri or even Wyoming to get a better look.

We went to the Weather Channel's website to see how things were panning out, weather-wise, here in Arkansas. Five days out, the forecasters said there was a 60 percent chance of rain in central Arkansas. Oh no!

As the days passed, the chances of rain gradually decreased. By the time Monday afternoon got here, there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Viewing was excellent.

Which goes to show: Short-term, the weather guys and gals often get it just right. Especially the night before a snow, they can often give you the inch count.

But five days out, especially 10 days, they don't know. They really don't know.
