Political one-acts
University of Central Arkansas faculty member Wayne Stengel will put on readings of three of his one-act plays under the title Inaugural Daze, 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lantern Theater, 1021 Van Ronkle St., Conway. Admission is free.
Stengel describes himself in a statement as "not a particularly political person," but says he was inspired following the Nov. 8 election and its aftermath to write three one-acts with political themes:
• Love Bill Hate Hillary. A Dream, set in a chic Little Rock restaurant on the evening of Nov. 9.
• Katie, Bar the Door. A Nightmare: "In a grungy bar in southern Ohio, John Boehner country, in and out of time from the beginning of the Obama presidency to the night of Nov. 9, 2016."
• The Sea, the Flood, the Fragments of Democracy. A Prediction and a Fantasy: "In a small boat on turbulent high seas somewhere off the coast of Norfolk, Va. Sometime in the ominously near future: tomorrow."

Jazz in the Park
The Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau, in partnership with Art Porter Music Education Inc., will open the fifth Jazz in the Park series with Sounds So Good performing 6-8 p.m. Sept. 6 in the History Pavilion in Little Rock's Riverfront Park, just west of the First Security Amphitheater (enter via Ottenheimer Drive off of President Clinton Avenue).
The rest of the lineup (all performances, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, History Pavilion -- in case of rain, in the the West Pavilion behind the River Market's Ottenheimer Market Hall, 400 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock; admission is free):
