SAU dorm named for 3 lifetime givers

Southern Arkansas University has named a new residence hall on the Magnolia campus Burns-Harsh Hall.

The new hall -- named after Dr. Bob and Molly Burns and Mary Harsh -- was completed last week and was constructed under the name West Hall. It has room for 85 freshmen.

The building is on the campus's north side, next to the new Magnolia and Columbia halls.

SAU trustees approved a resolution stating that "Dr. Bob and Molly Burns and Mary Harsh have been friends and supporters of Southern Arkansas University and have made possible significant advances that would not otherwise have been possible."

They are among the top tier of lifetime givers to SAU, which include financial donations to the university's endowment fund for the Reynolds Center, the Reception Center at Story Arena, scholarships enhanced by the Farmers Bank Distinguished Series and student travel.

Bob Burns has served as an SAU trustee, and both Molly Burns and Harsh have served on the SAU Foundation Board.

The name of the new hall reflects their philanthropy, SAU said in a news release.

SAU has finished another residence hall, the Rudy and Sharon Eichenberger Hall, in time for this fall. It is intended for engineering students in the former skating rink on West University Street. The hall can accommodate 55 students.
