The Golf Classic on Sept. 11 has a new home this year at the Springdale Country Club. The four-person scramble will have two flights, with lunch served between flights.

Kickball for the Kids will kick off at 8 a.m Sept. 29 at Memorial Park in Bentonville. Stout said the tournament is about "team spirit, team building." Some teams choose themes replete with costumes as their uniforms. A spirit award is presented to a team after the tournament, as voted on by all teams. Two leagues will play that day -- a fun league (three games) and a competitive league (until one team wins all).

The Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter is a private nonprofit organization offering 24-hour residential care for children and teens who are victims of abuse or neglect. Founded in 1993 with five girls as residents, the 48-bed shelter serves some 500 children annually. Residents may stay up to 45 days in a six-month period until returning to their families or being placed in foster care.

The shelter in Vaughn will host a family friendly open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Stout said shelter visitors are usually restricted to age 19 and older for the residents' confidentiality. The children of the shelter will have an off-site activity Sunday. Stout said visitors will tour the shelter and "walk through in the shoes of a child."
