Trash-truck wrecks tied to NFL in study

tied to NFL in study

A study out this week suggests waste-truck drivers are more likely to have a sleep-related crash or near-miss on Mondays during the National Football League's season than any other time of the year.

A researcher analyzed footage of drivers from 2012 through 2016. Among the 33,000 drivers watched and scored, the incidents where a driver was visibly slouched or falling asleep at the same time as an evasive maneuver or collision were about 53 percent higher in the months of August through November -- which coincides with the NFL preseason and most of the regular season.

The group behind the study, San Diego-based Lytx, provides cameras to companies that have professional drivers, like long-haul carriers and waste management fleets. Its equipment sits inside more than 30,000 waste vehicles in the United States.

The cameras record the driver, the road ahead, as well as the speed of the trucks. Lytx then studies the footage and provides their clients details about driver behavior during crashes or close calls.

Domino's Pizza plans

sit-down eatery in LR

Domino's Pizza, which built its reputation on delivering pizza pies, now wants people to enjoy them at its newest Little Rock location.

The international chain is debuting its first "pizza theater" concept in the state's capital at 1402 Rebsamen Park Road, formerly the longtime site of an E-Z Mart convenience store in the Riverdale neighborhood, according to a news release from Collier's International, which represented Domino's in a lease negotiation for the location.

The 2,460-square-foot store's open-concept design allows flexibility for a number of elements unavailable in a traditional Domino's store. They include a lobby, indoor seating, viewing of pizza preparation and the ability to track carryout orders on a lobby screen.

The location will be the 24th Domino's in the Little Rock area, said Patrick Hamill, the development leader for the chain's Southern region.
