Sounds in the Stacks

Pianist-singer Tim Anthony will perform R&B and jazz at 6:30 p.m. today at the Central Arkansas Library System's Dee Brown Library, 6325 Baseline Road, Little Rock, for CALS' "Sounds in the Stacks," part of the Arkansas Sounds Music Series. Anthony will perform on a 7-foot, 6-inch Kawai GX-7 concert grand provided by Piano Kraft, which sponsors the series with Kawai and KATV-TV. Admission is free. Plastic purses

"The Power of Plastics: Reshaping Midcentury Fashion," showcasing midcentury plastic handbags and accessories from owner Anita Davis' private collection, opens today at the Esse Purse Museum, 1510 Main St., Little Rock. The exhibit, much of which focuses on Bakelite and Lucite handbags from the 1930s-50, will be up through Jan. 7. A reception, 5-7 p.m. Sept. 14, will feature snacks and libations; admission is half the usual price, $10, $8 for students, senior citizens (60-plus) and military. Artists announced

More than two dozen central Arkansas artists will participate in the Argenta Arts Foundation's Artist INC Live 2017 seminar. The eight-week, once-a-week arts entrepreneurship program, a partnership with Mid-America Arts Alliance, begins Sept. 11.

The artists, representing a range of disciplines: Ann Clements, B.J. Arnold, Chelsey Becker, Dale Ellis, Deitra Blackwell, Dolores Justus, Greta Morgan, Jake Jackson, Jeannetta Darley, Jill Kyong-McClain, Karen Hayes, Keith Melton, Kimberly Bingman, LeAnn Smoot, Lyuba Bogan, Marianne Hedges Hennigar, Monica Clark-Robinson, Morgan Herndon, Myriam Faride Saavedra, Patrick Fleming, Paul Prater, Robert Berry, Ryan Howard, Tim Vahsholtz and Todd Gill.

The sessions will cover specific business needs, challenges and skills in planning, marketing, finance, law and technology; knowledge of and ability to access local and national business resources; and networking. Peer facilitators include "visual" artists Diane Harper, Dominique Simmons, Kevin Kresse and Kandy Jones, playwright Judy Goss and writer Paula Martin.
