Brown carries Colts into title game

RIVERCREST 18, McGEHEE 13

WILSON -- Quarterback Demilon Brown accounted for three touchdowns, including running for the eventual game winner with 4:29 left in the fourth quarter, to lead Rivercrest over McGehee, 18-13.

The Colts (12-2) led 6-0 at halftime but saw the Owls take a 13-12 lead into the fourth quarter. Rivercrest drove to the McGehee (11-3) 8-yard line early in the fourth quarter, but a bad snap resulted in a 23-yard loss on third down to stall the drive.

The Colts then drove 60 yards on their next possession with Burks scrambling 23 yards on third and 5 for the go-ahead touchdown with 4:29 remaining.

On McGehee's ensuing drive, Jamyka Franks and Logan Gray combined for a sack on fourth and 9 at the Owls' 35 to advance the Colts to Friday's Class 3A championship game against Junction City.

Brown led the Colts with 150 yards rushing on 12 carries with 2 touchdowns, including a 3-yard run in the first quarter to give Rivercrest a 6-0 lead. The extra-point attempt was blocked.

The Colts had a first and goal at the 5 late in the second quarter but missed on a 24-yard field goal attempt.

Brown's 32-yard touchdown pass to Kaleb Long in the third quarter gave the Colts a 12-6 lead after McGehee's Kaylon Handley ran 7 yards for a touchdown that tied the score earlier in the quarter.

Keuntai Reed's 3-yard TD run and Parker Carter's extra point gave the Owls a 13-12 lead late in the third quarter.

Rivercrest outgained McGehee 318-120 in total yards. The Colts rushed for 46 times for 264 yards, led by Brown's 150. J.D. Winda added 74 yards on 18 attempts, while Franks had 60 yards on 15 carries.

Brown was 3-of-4 passing for 54 yards.

Gray led the Rivercrest defensive effort with 10 tackles and a forced fumble. Freshman Kam Turner added eight tackles for the Colts.

Handley led McGehee with 58 yards on 12 attempts.
