Gorillas finish fast, down Wonder Boys

Pittsburg State outscored Arkansas Tech 41-0 in the final 30:13 to defeat the Wonder Boys 48-31 in the Agent Barry Live United Bowl in Texarkana on Saturday.

Trailing 31-7 with 13 seconds left in the second quarter, Brandon Franklin caught an 8-yard pass from John Roderique to get the Gorillas to within 31-14.

The momentum continued in the second half when Lorenzo West caught a 19-yard pass from Roderique to make it 31-21 and a 12-yard scoring run by Kenyan Scheurich closed it to 31-27.

Michael Rose scored on touchdown runs of 27 and 12 yards in the fourth quarter to give the Gorillas the lead for good at 41-31. D'Vontae Brown's 7-yard run with 35 seconds capped the scoring.

The Wonder Boys, who had 22 first downs and 432 yards in total offense, punted on their first four possessions of the second half and turned the ball over on downs on their fifth. Three of those drives lasted four plays or less.

Arkansas Tech's Ty Reasnor completed 17 of 37 passes for 212 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bryan Allen led the Wonder Boys with 167 yards on 22 carries and 2 touchdowns.

The Gorillas finished with 578 yards in total offense and 32 first downs. They held the ball for 31:22.

Roderique completed 21 of 28 passes for 2 touchdowns. Rose led the Gorillas with 179 yards rushing on 21 carries, while West caught 8 passes for 85 yards and 1 touchdown.
