VOLLEYBALL

Arkansas Tech coach resigns

Kristy Bayer, the winningest coach for the Arkansas Tech University volleyball program, announced her resignation after 14 seasons, Athletic Director Steve Mullins announced Wednesday.

Bayer accepted an administrative position at Emporia State University in Kansas.

After finishing 13-17 in her first season in Russellville, Bayer reeled off 13 consecutive winning seasons while winning seven conference titles. She earned five conference coach of the year honors and was named the 2017 Central Region Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden Suns to a 35-1 mark.

BASKETBALL

Arkansas State women alter tip time

The Arkansas State University women's basketball team has announced its home game against Grambling State on Dec. 16 has been moved to 3 p.m. at First National Bank Arena.

The game, originally scheduled for 7 p.m., was altered with the ASU football team competing on the same day in the Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Ala., at 7 p.m.

FOOTBALL

Southern Arkansas players honored

Southern Arkansas University senior tight end Tanner Hudson and junior defensive end Davondrick Lison were named American Football Coaches Association All-Americans on Wednesday.

Both Hudson and Lison were named to the second team.

Hudson led the team and ranked sixth in the Great American Conference in receiving yards with 624. He was also second on the team and led tight ends in the GAC in receptions and receiving touchdowns with 43 catches and 6 scores.

Lison tied for the lead in the GAC in sacks (7.5) and tackles for lost yardage (16.5). He also totaled 53 tackles.

Four from Lyon to participate in showcase

The Lyon College football team will have four players participate in the D2 vs. NAIA Challenge on Dec. 16 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Senior quarterback Cody Jones, senior tight end Jonathan Hendrix, senior running back Fabian Buenrostro and senior wide receiver Trent Webb will participate.

SOCCER

UALR coach leaves for Army

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock announced Wednesday the resignation of women's soccer Coach Adrian Blewitt, who accepted the same position at Army.

In his five seasons at UALR, Blewitt posted a 44-46-10 record.

Blewitt's teams won eight or more games in four of his five seasons, including a program-best 12 victories in 2016. The Trojans had a 30-15-4 home record at Coleman Sports Complex.

Harding's Sutherland named academic All-America

Harding University announced Wednesday that junior women's soccer player Bethany Sutherland was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America Team.

Sutherland is Harding's career goals leader with 51 goals in 60 games. She had 14 goals and 2 assists in this season.

Sutherland, a second-team honoree, is an elementary education major with a 3.65 GPA. Eligible athletes are sophomores and have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher.

BASEBALL

Arkansas State baseball signs eight

Arkansas State Coach Tommy Raffo announced Wednesday the signing of eight baseball recruits.

ASU's newcomers to the 2019 class are Alec Byous (Wildwood, Mo.); Chandler Coates (Republic, Mo.); Sky-Lar Culver (Mountain Home); Eli Davis (Brighton, Tenn.); Will Huber (Cordova, Tenn.); Zach Jackson (Bryant); Karsen Reid (Smithville, Mo.); and Will Richardson (Woodlawn).
