Morrilton meat firm to expand, add jobs

Morrilton Packing Co. plans to expand its operations, the firm said Monday.

Through the expansion, Morrilton Packing, parent company of Petit Jean Meats, will invest $2.1 million to add capacity for current and future products, including a new line of snack sticks. The pork processor and wholesaler will create about 34 jobs, bringing its total employment to more than 100.

The business produces ham, bacon, sausages, hot dogs and sandwich meats including bologna. Morrilton Packing sells its meat online across the country, but most products are sold to retail and food-service locations in Arkansas and Texas.

Petit Jean Meats has been family-owned since it was founded in the 1920s by Felix Schlosser shortly after he immigrated to Arkansas from Germany.
