Cincinnati ends Miss. State's run

No. 25 Cincinnati 65, Mississippi State 50

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. -- Jacob Evans III had 24 points and eight rebounds as No. 25 Cincinnati recovered from back-to-back losses and handed Mississippi State its first defeat 65-50 on Tuesday night.

The Bearcats (8-2) were coming off losses to crosstown rival Xavier and Florida that dropped them from No. 11 to the fringe of the rankings. They ended the slump with a solid defensive showing against the SEC's last unbeaten team, blocking 11 shots.

Mississippi State (8-1) was off to its best start since 2003-2004, but the Bulldogs struggled to make shots in their first game against a ranked team. They missed 10 consecutive in the first half and 14 in a row in the second as Cincinnati blew open a close game.

Aric Holman matched his career high with 18 points for Mississippi State, which shot a season-low 30 percent from the field.

No. 15 Seton Hall 84, Saint Peter's 61

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- Angel Delgado had 18 points and 11 rebounds, his 57th career double-double, leading No. 15 Seton Hall to a victory over Saint Peter's in a rare game at the Pirates' old campus location Walsh Gym.

Desi Rodriguez scored 17 points and Khadeen Carrington added 11, as Seton Hall (9-1) raced out to an early lead and never looked back, winning for the 20th time in the past 21 meetings against the Peacocks (4-5).

Davauhnte Turner scored 13 points and Nick Griffin had nine to pace Saint Peter's.

TOP 25 WOMEN

No. 3 Louisville 95, Tennessee State 56

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Asia Durr, Jazmine Jones and Sam Fuehring each scored 12 points to lead a balanced offense for No. 3 Louisville, which scored the game's first 12 points to jump-start a blowout of Tennessee State.

Seeking a tuneup before its upcoming rivalry matchup at Kentucky, the Cardinals (12-0) made 8 of their first 9 shots toward finishing 38 of 70 from the field (54 percent). They led 57-27 at halftime and by as many as 42 while dominating the boards 52-31 in continuing their second-best start in program history.

Bionca Dunham, Myisha Hines-Allen and Kylee Shook each added 11 points, and Dana Evans had 10 as seven Cardinals scored in double figures. Louisville swept its four-game home stand against Tennessee schools by an average margin of 37.5 points.

Taylor Williams had 5 three-pointers and 17 points, and Tia Wooten added 12 points for Tennessee State (1-6).

No. 23 Michigan 79, North Florida 34

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Katelynn Flaherty scored a game-high 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor as No. 23 Michigan (9-2) jumped out to a 24-4 lead after the first quarter to cruise to a victory over North Florida (5-5).

The Wolverines dominated in every facet of the game, from points in the lane (40-10) to bench points (22-9) to rebounding (37-16). Michigan shot 55.4 percent from the floor while holding North Florida to 17.5 percent.

Hallie Thorne scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Wolverines. Adrienne Jackson led North Florida with eight points.

SEC WOMEN

Mississippi 68, Southern Miss. 59

OXFORD, Miss. -- Southern Miss cut a 16-point deficit at the beginning of the fourth quarter in half, but Mississippi held on for its seventh consecutive victory in front of a record crowd of 8,229.

Ole Miss (9-1) took a 16-point lead with 9:30 remaining on a basket by Chyna Nixon, giving the Rebels a 56-40 lead. Southern Miss outscored Ole Miss 32-28 in the lane and outrebounded the Rebels 45-34 as the Lady Eagles went on a 9-0 run, holding Ole Miss scoreless for nearly five minutes, to keep the game close. The Rebels held the Eagles at bay by hitting 12 of their final 16 free throws.

Madinah Muhammad and Alissa Alston scored 19 points each to lead Ole Miss, while Cecilia Muhate chipped in with 10. Megan Brown and Jayla King led Southern Miss (6-3) with 12 points each.
