Broyles award finalists feted on eve of winner declaration

Five finalists for the Broyles Award were invited to the Capital Hotel for a reception and dinner on Dec. 4, the night before the 2017 winner was announced. The award honors college football's top assistant coaches.

The finalists, family members, sponsors and members of the Frank and Barbara Broyles Foundation gathered on the hotel's mezzanine to start the evening. There, they enjoyed drinks, the hotel's famous spiced pecans and pimento cheese and crackers before dinner.

On display was the large bronze award featuring a sculpture of a coach and his assistant named for former Arkansas Razorbacks football coach Frank Broyles. Attendees included Broyles' daughter, Betsy Arnold, and grandchildren Molly and Jacob Arnold. Money raised from the award ceremony supports the mission of the Frank and Barbara Broyles Foundation which provides support to Alzheimer's caregivers.
