Two officers fired at a 28-year-old man after he produced a handgun during a traffic stop in Batesville Saturday night, according to a news release from Arkansas State Police.

It happened about 7:15 p.m., just off of U.S. 167. In the release, authorities said a man later identified as Andrew D. Hatley fled after two Batesville officers stopped a vehicle in which he was a passenger.

According to initial statements collected by Arkansas State Police, Hatley “ran a short distance then turned and pointed a handgun at the officers,” at which point they opened fire, striking him.

Hatley, of Batesville, was taken a to a local hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. There was no word on his condition on Sunday. The officers, who authorities did not identify Sunday, were not hurt.

The Batesville Police Department did not respond to a request for comment.
