A central Arkansas man is accused of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend, causing a severe injury, authorities said.

Andrew Burroughs, 29, of Hensley was arrested around 2:20 p.m. Saturday on a felony count of first-degree domestic battery, according to a report from the Pulaski County sheriff’s office.

Authorities say Burroughs battered and kicked the victim in her stomach Friday at a residence in the 3300 block of West Hensley Road in Hensley, leaving her with a "severe injury" to her face. The victim was said to be 28 weeks pregnant.

Burroughs fled on a bicycle when deputies tried to speak with him Saturday, the report states. He was arrested that afternoon.

Records show he remained at the Pulaski County jail as of Monday morning, and bail had not been set.
