Little Rock convenience store robber stole cash, claimed to be a gang member, employee tells police

A Little Rock convenience store was held up at gunpoint early Monday by a robber who demanded cash and cigarettes and claimed to be a gang member, according to a police report.

Shortly after 2 a.m., a male approached the counter of the Doublebee's at 7700 Scott Hamilton Road, pointed a gray semiautomatic handgun at the clerk and ordered him to open the register, police said.

The employee reportedly said he couldn't do so because the computers were rebooting, so the assailant demanded his wallet, which he handed over.

The robber kept the gun pointed at him and again demanded money, so the clerk broke the register open and gave him an undisclosed amount of cash, as well as money from the safe.

The assailant left the business, then came back in and and demanded a carton of Newport cigarettes, though the employee told him they were locked up and inaccessible, according to the report.

The robber left, walking south on Scott Hamilton Drive.

The employee told police the robber was wearing a red do-rag over his face and claimed to be a member of the Crips street gang.

Police have named no suspects, and no arrests had been made at the time of the report.
