PINE BLUFF -- J. H. Pritchard, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Pritchard of this city, is the first Pine Bluff boy to be wounded in France. He left here several months ago to join the Twelfth Regiment, Railroad Engineers, and was soon sent to France. In a letter just received from him he said he had just left the hospital after having been treated for a light wound in one of his feet, but said he "got" several of the Germans. No further details of how the wound was received were given.

LONOKE -- Lonoke County Sheriff Warren Minton said Friday that he was locked up in his own jail Thursday night by a prisoner who had sawed his way to freedom. Minton said the prisoner, Leroy Brice, 23, of England, had been transferred to the County Jail from the Lonoke City Jail about two weeks ago. Minton said he didn't search the prisoner when the transfer took place. Bruce was being held on charges of burglary and car theft. As it turned out, the sheriff said, the prisoner apparently had a hacksaw blade concealed on him.

• At least two gunmen shot more than 50 rounds into a southwest Little Rock home early Saturday morning, leaving a 6-year-old girl on life support, police said. Seven bullets hit Kamya Weathersby as she was lying in a front bedroom of the home a little before 5 a.m., Little Rock police spokesman Lt. Terry Hastings said. While a 4-year-old girl who was in the bed with Kamya was grazed by a bullet, two adults and a child who were also in the home at the time were unharmed. "At least two guys, maybe more, came to the house and started shooting in windows and walls, and put 50 rounds or more in the house," Hastings said. The gunmen most likely used a handgun or a rifle, he said.
