Lecture to cover LR desegregation

A University of Arkansas at Little Rock history professor will lecture Tuesday about desegregation in the capital city's schools.

Jim Ross will hold the lecture, which includes perspectives from a student, a civil-rights leader and a School Board member who experienced school desegregation in Little Rock. Ross is also a former Little Rock School Board member.

The discussion will focus on school desegregation in the 1960s, just years after the Little Rock Nine integrated Central High School in accordance with the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Brown v. Board of Education.

The lecture will start 7:30 p.m. at the Ottenheimer Auditorium in the Historic Arkansas Museum, 200 E. Third St. Refreshments will be served at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Ad exec sets talkat UCA this week

The co-founder and president of an advertising firm will speak at the University of Central Arkansas on Thursday.

Millie Ward of Stone Ward will talk about "War Stories and Observational Advice from an Old Ad Girl" from 1:40 p.m.-2:30 p.m. in the College of Business auditorium.

Ward and Larry Stone started the full-service advertising, marketing and public relations firm in 1984. The agency now has offices in Little Rock and Chicago and includes clients such as the U.S. Soccer Federation, Sissy's Log Cabin and the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce.

In 2014, Ward became the first woman inducted into the Arkansas Business Hall of Fame.

The lecture is a part of the Davis Family Lecture Series. Admission is free.
