Taco Bell’s Naked Chicken Chalupa is fried, not in the raw.
Taco Bell’s Naked Chicken Chalupa is fried, not in the raw.

Taco Bell regularly introduces limited-time-only menu items. Some are hits, some are misses. Its newest production, the scandalously named Naked Chicken Chalupa, falls somewhere in the middle.

Taco Bell has processed boneless skinless chicken breasts into quarter-inch-thick circles, about 5 inches across. The chicken is breaded and fried into the shape of a taco shell. Inside the shell is a smear of avocado ranch sauce, shredded iceberg lettuce, cheddar cheese and diced tomatoes.

My fellow taster and I found them delicious, though the chicken chalupa shell was a little spicy. The crisp chicken was hot, which the cool fillings helped offset.

As for nutrition information, one chalupa contains 440 calories and 30 fat, 22 carbohydrate and 20 protein grams. That'd be OK if you ate one and drank water.

The chalupas, available at Taco Bells across Arkansas, cost about $2.99 to $3.29, depending on the market. Visit tacobell.com.
