UCA board raises meal costs 2.81%

CONWAY -- University of Central Arkansas students will pay more for meals in the next academic year.

The board of trustees voted unanimously Friday to approve an overall, average 2.81 percent increase as part of an annual contract renewal with its food-service vendor, Aramark Educational Services LLC.

UCA approved the original Aramark contract in 2012. It is renewable for up to 10 years. Revisions have followed each year.

Under the contract terms, UCA and Aramark mutually agree upon an appropriate increase, using the 12-month October Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers.

"The university's failure to meet the required minimum number of meal plan participants also contributed to the rate increase," according to the board's agenda.
