Where I live: Cammack Village

Occupation: associate professor of rehabilitation counseling at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I also facilitate meditation classes, primarily Compassion Cultivation Training developed at Stanford University's Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education.

My favorite space is: my office/meditation room.

Why? It is where I practice meditation and yoga and write and reflect. It is a special place for me because it offers me a refuge, a place for rejuvenation and reflection. I also like to spend quiet time here with my children. This is a place that is dedicated to the things that are most important to me.

I typically sit in the middle of the room on a meditation cushion. There is a large window, which provides ample light and gives the room an open and airy feel. One wall is filled with inspirational pictures and objects, and the room contains four bookshelves filled with my favorite books.

There are also pictures of my grandparents, great-grandparents, and great-great-grandparents, as well as a painting done by my great-grandmother. There are also cards and drawings and other sentimental items from my children. There is also an original 1966 Bob Dylan "rainbow hair" poster.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: extend the room into a sunroom overlooking the backyard.
