GARFIELD -- A man was found dead Thursday night on a secluded portion of Gann Ridge Road in northeast Benton County.

Benton County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating at the area between Garfield and Gateway and have someone they are speaking with about the man's death, according to Sheriff S̶e̶a̶n̶ Shawn* Holloway.

"We do have a person of interest," Holloway said, adding he couldn't say whether a weapon was found at the scene. Deputies were still on the scene investigating late Thursday evening. Traffic on Gann Ridge Road was diverted from the Old Wire Road valley to the hilltop at Kvasmo Court and Jones Trailer Park.

Holloway declined to release the age or identity of the man, but said he had a gunshot wound to the head. Holloway said the man was in a white pickup owned by Gateway's city government. The pickup was facing east along the side of Gann Ridge Road.

Gateway Mayor Andrew Tillman wasn't available for comment by press time.
