Volunteers get praised, fed at Literacy Action luncheon

Tutors and volunteers with Literacy Action of Central Arkansas gathered for an appreciation luncheon on Feb. 14 at the organization's offices at the Central Arkansas Library System Main Library. The nonprofit's staff and board members were the hosts.

The volunteers were treated to a buffet of sandwiches, cheese and crackers, chips and, of course, sweets, which included homemade brownies and chocolate chip cookies.

Executive Director Sara Drew told guests she had just come from the state Capitol where it was Arkansas Literacy Day and that she was able to tell legislators how much of an impact the volunteers' work has had.

Sarah Standridge, director of adult programs, said the organization has grown in a lot of exciting ways and more is happening. Literacy Action was recently selected as the 2017 beneficiary of Party With a Heart.

Literacy Action of Central Arkansas provides one-on-one tutoring, teaching reading skills to adults and English language skills to non-native adults.
