Margo Duvall is ready to celebrate.

The assistant professor of art at Henderson State University has organized an exhibition to observe Women's History Month in March.

The show, "Nasty Woman," features 32 female artists, most of whom are from Little Rock.

"The title came out of the presidential debate last year; it became a rallying cry that brought women's issues to the forefront," Duvall says. "We thought it was good title for a show of all female artists."

The show, she says, is "in celebration of a broad spectrum of female voices. We're hoping to open the conversation and a dialogue around the community."

The exhibit's opening reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday; many of the artists will be in attendance. An artists roundtable discussion is planned and Angie Macri will read her original poetry.

Participants include Zina Al-Shukri, Heather Beckwith, Duvall, Jeanie Hursley, Mia Hall, Diane Page Harper, Robyn Horn, Erin House, Heidi Hogden, Catherine Kim, Kimberly Kwee, Joli Livaudais, Hannah May, Catherine Nugent, Kasten Searles, Katherine Strause and Miranda Young, all of Little Rock; Darcie Beekman-Black, Memphis; Megan Berner, Reno, Nev.; Cynthia Buob, Columbus, Miss.; Beverly Buys and Macri, Hot Springs; Melissa Cowper Smith, Morrilton; Norwood Creech, Lepanto; Nancy Dunaway, North Little Rock; Melissa Gill, Conway; Tammy Harrington, Russellville; Rosemary Meza-DesPlas, Farmington, N.M.; Emily Rogers, Grand Rapids, Mich; Dina Santos, Santa Cruz, Calif; Brittany Wilder, Benton; and Kat Wilson, Fayetteville.

The gallery is on the first floor of the Russell Fine Arts Building at HSU, 604 N. 12th St., Arkadelphia. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For information, call (870) 230-5036

Mac Murphy's guiding vision for M2 Gallery, which he co-owns with John Magee, is art "that is outside the norm."

Murphy and wife Ashley, a photographer, are always looking for artists "who create things that are distinctively different from what we've seen, from what we're used to."

Now in business for a decade, M2 will open "M2X," its 10th anniversary exhibition, with a reception at 6 p.m. Friday. The gallery is in the Pleasant Ridge Town Center at 11525 Cantrell Road, Suite 918, Little Rock.

For the gallery's second decade, Murphy plans to bring more artists from around the South and host several pop-up art shows.

"A lot of our artists will have new work in the exhibition," Murphy says. That includes the gallery operator as well, who creates mixed media pieces; Murphy will debut a new series, "All That Glitters."

Other artists taking part include Jason Twiggy Lott of Jackson, Miss., Neal Harrington of Russellville, Steve Adair of Rogers and central Arkansas artists Robin Tucker, Catherine Nugent, Lisa Krannichfeld, Ike Garlington, Matt Coburn, Cathy Burns and V.L. Cox. Magee and Ashley Murphy will also have work in the exhibit, as will abstract painter Bryan Frazier.

M2 artist Krannichfeld also will bring her "Undomesticated Interiors" solo exhibition to William F. Laman Public Library Exhibition Hall, 2801 Orange Street in North Little Rock, next month. The show, featuring her latest works, will hang March 6-25 with an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. March 10.
