'Life Is Beautiful' with Block group at Cajun's Wharf

The Rodney Block Collective will present "Life Is Beautiful," a concert and dance party, at 9 p.m. Friday at Cajun's Wharf in Little Rock. Admission is $5.

The event will feature Bijoux Pighee and special guests. A native of Dumas, Block has built a following in the genres of jazz and hip-hop. He has released three albums: Hey You!, Eyes Haven't Seen: Ears Haven't Heard and Steel.

Singer Bonnie Montgomery will perform at 9 p.m. today at the White Water Tavern in Little Rock. Admission is $7.

Montgomery, a native of White County, released her full-length self-titled album in July 2014 after debuting with a string of singles and EPs. She is known for her blend of country and rock styles, but first came to the attention of music fans with a well-received opera, Billy Blythe, about Bill Clinton as a teenager (before he took his stepfather's last name).

The winner of the 2016 "Ameripolitan Outlaw Female" award in 2016, Montgomery has toured or opened shows for Gossip, Hayes Carll, Billy Joe Shaver, Turnpike Troubadours, Shovels and Rope, Robert Ellis, Joe Ely, Pokey LaFarge, Wayne "The Train" Hancock, Dale Watson, Sturgill Simpson, John Moreland, Mike and the Moonpies and Adia Victoria.

Amasa Hines will perform at 9:30 p.m. Friday. Admission is $10. The "psychedelic afro-futurism" band, formed in 2010, released a debut album, All the World There Is, in 2014. Joshua Asante is the lead singer and plays guitar and keyboards, accompanied by Ryan Hitt on bass, Matt Rice on keyboard, Norman Williamson on saxophone and brothers Josh and Judson Spillyards on drums and guitar, respectively.

Some of the band members also play in other local groups, including Velvet Kente and Funkanites.

Teardrop City, Jim Mize and Bark will perform at 9 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $7.

Nightflying will celebrate 36 years as a free regional music publication at 8 p.m Friday at the Four Quarter Bar in North Little Rock. Admission is $7.

The Nightflying party will feature music by Amy Garland, Jason Hale & The Personal Space Invaders, Weakness for Blondes, Brian Nahlen, The P-47s and The Joe Pitts Band. Jeff Allen will be the master of ceremonies.

Mountain Sprout will perform at 10 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $7.

Based in Eureka Springs, Mountain Sprout released its debut album, PornoBilly, in 2005. It was followed by One More for the Ditch in 2007, Fambilly Hour in 2008, Into the Sun in 2009, Habits to Feed in 2010, Refried Best O' The Beans in 2011 and Long Time Comin' in 2014.
