Lynnette Watts

Where I live: My husband, Michael, and I live in the Stifft Station neighborhood in Little Rock.

Occupation: I am now enjoying a return to creating art after a long career in the nonprofit sector, most recently with the Women's Foundation of Arkansas.

My favorite space is: One might think my favorite space would be my studio, where I spend the majority of my time; or our recently remodeled kitchen, which holds a collection of needlework by my mother, grandmother, sister and me, as well as tiles I painted for our backsplash. But, no. My favorite space in our home is my office.

Why? It is a small and cozy room, filled with light streaming through the windows on the east and south walls. The office contains everything that I love -- my piano; family photos; a painting by my mother; drawings by my sister, grandkids, nieces and nephews; gifts from friends; and mementos from travels. Every item in this room holds meaning for me. Mundane tasks such as paying bills or editing my website (hammonswatts.com) do not feel like chores in such a pleasant setting.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: have someone remove everything from the room, then refinish the floors, plaster and paint the walls and replace everything exactly as it was. That would be no small feat!
