Ostomates

The Northwest Arkansas Ostomy support group will meet at 2 p.m. today at Hope Cancer Resources, 8535 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. The speaker for the meeting will be Lon Hudson, Presbyterian minister. He will be discussing the importance of faith during a crisis.

Pieces 'N Patches

Pieces 'N Patches quilt group will meet at 10 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, 1901 S. 26th St. in Rogers.

Suzanne Kittrell will present "From Painted Decoration to Fabric Art Quilts: My Art Journey of 50 Years." Besides showing her various pieces of artwork, she will also conduct a short workshop on sewing personal cards.

The group meets at 12:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month for programs and at 10 a.m. on the third Monday for workshops. Snacks are served on program days, and participants should bring lunch on workshop days; beverages will be provided. Visitors are welcome.

Teachers

The Washington County Retired Teachers Association meeting will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Western Sizzlin' in Springdale. The buffet lunch, which is $10, begins at 11:30 a.m. Members need to bring items for charitable donations. The program is on "Conservation" by Troy Scarbrough.

Squares

The Kingsdale Squares will dance at 7 p.m. Monday at Riordan Hall in Bella Vista. Grant Roth will be the caller.

Lessons for new square dancers will be from 5:45 to 7 p.m. There will be 10-12 lessons, depending on how the group progresses. The cost is $35 with the first two lessons free.

VFW 3031

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3031 in Rogers will hold its House Committee meeting at 9 a.m. Monday and member and Auxiliary meetings at 10 a.m. Saturday at the post, located at 11160 N. Old Wire Road in Rogers.

The post holds several activities each week, with Sunday breakfasts from 8 to 10 a.m., Tuesday hamburger nights from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday three-ball at 6:30 p.m., Thursday all day happy hours and Friday karaoke from 7 to 11 p.m. Scotch Doubles will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday and Texas hold'em begins at 1 p.m. Jan. 23.

Granny's Quilts

Granny's Quilts of Love will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, 1300 N. Davis St. in Pea Ridge. Participants will be cutting batting. Bring scissors and all finished quilts and batting trimmings.

To date, Granny's members have made 23,414 quilts, 6,989 caps and 6,872 pillows, and all have been donated to Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Ladies Day Out will hold the annual bingo game and luncheon at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Concordia Retirement Center in Bella Vista. Lunch will be $11.

Quilt Guild

The Modern Quilt Guild of Northwest Arkansas will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Rogers Historical Museum Annex, 120 W. Poplar St. Guild member Adele Atha will present a trunk show of her work.

Democrats

The Senior Democrats of Northwest Arkansas will meet at noon Tuesday at the Western Sizzlin' restaurant in Springdale. Georgia Ross has been named the incoming president. Jessica Sabin, a central Arkansas commentator and Democratic activist, will speak.

Democrats are urged to attend from Washington, Madison, Carroll and Benton counties.

Alzheimers

The Alzheimer's Association, in collaboration with the Schmieding Center for Senior Health and Education, will present a support group for those in early stages of Alzheimer's disease or related dementia and their care partners. This is an eight-week series that will include education on all aspects of dementia and available community resources, as well as supportive discussions. Meetings will be each Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon beginning this week at the Schmieding Center in Springdale.

The Ozark Mountains Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday at Simmons Bank, 3975 W. New Hope Road in Rogers. The chapter will be having a business meeting and committee reports. Anyone interested in joining DAR is welcome.

Legion 27

The Shelton Tucker Craft American Legion Post 27 would like to remind the public of the $5 all-you-can eat bean lunch fundraisers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Wednesday at the post, 1195 S. Curtis Ave. in Fayetteville. The meal includes beans with ham, cornbread, dessert and iced tea or coffee.

The post's Legion and Auxiliary meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, with a guest speaker from the Fayetteville Police Department. There will be a dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. before the meeting.

DD214 Pancake Breakfast day will be from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Bring in your DD214 and get $1 off this all-you-can-eat, cooked-to-order meal. Regular price is $6, or a family of four or more for $15; kids 6 years and younger eat free, with proceeds benefiting Post 27 Veterans Assistance Fund.

Veterans can get assistance with filing for their DD214 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Hikers

The Ozark Highlands Trail Association has two hikes planned for the month of January.

Woods Gap to White Rock/Rim Trail: Meet at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 22 at Marvin's IGA parking lot near Mountain Man Pawn Shop on South School Avenue in Fayetteville or from 10:15 to 10:30 a.m. at White Rock Trailhead. After hiking to White Rock, there will be a lunch break before continuing to hike the Rim Trail. Distance will be around 5 miles of fairly easy hiking.

Indian Creek Trailhead to Lick Branch Trailhead: Meet at Elkins Harps near the gas pumps at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 28 for carpooling or meet directly at 10 a.m. at Indian Creek Trailhead canoe launch. The hike will be approximately 5 miles; rated moderate difficulty due to elevation change.

Genealogists

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Bentonville Public Library, 405 S. Main St. The program will be "Bring Your Brickwall" genealogy research problems and get advice on how to break down the brick wall.

Cancer Support

Hope Cancer Resources and Highlands Oncology Group offers a support group for patients affected by lymphedema and caregivers. It meets from noon to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at Highlands Oncology Group in Rogers. This group is co-facilitated by lymphedema professionals and an oncology social worker.

Garden Club

Bella Vista Garden Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 25 at the United Lutheran Church, 100 Cooper Road in Bella Vista. A social gathering will begin at 11 a.m. with a light lunch following the meeting.

The program will be presented by Stacy Elkins, Birdsong Gardens, who will discuss "Growing Arkansas Native Plants." In addition, club member Mary Doyle will discuss Northwest Arkansas experienced gardener tips. Garden Club meetings are open to everyone.

Hope Cancer Resources offers a support group for women living with any type of Stage IV cancer. This month's meeting is from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at Hope Cancer Resources in Springdale. Members must make reservations to attend.

Women's Chorus

Bella Vista Women's Chorus is seeking new singers. There are no tryouts or experience needed.

Directed by Larry Zehring, the chorus performs classical, pop, folk and show tunes for local clubs and events. Rehearsals are at 12:45 p.m. Mondays in the music room of the Bella Vista First United Methodist Church.
