KEEP IT SHORT

Hot Springs arts group hosts Night of Short Film

HOT SPRINGS -- What to do on a long winter night? Watch short films. At least that's what fans and filmmakers of the short film genre did Jan. 7 at Arkansas Shorts -- A Night of Short Film, held at the Arlington Resort Hotel.

The annual short film showcase by Low Key Arts began with the panel discussion, "Made in Arkansas," with Graham Gordy, creator of the television series Quarry, and Daniel Campbell, director of the film Antiquities, which is in production. David Hill, executive director of Low Key Arts, served as moderator.

Before the screening, guests were invited to a reception in the mezzanine where they socialized, enjoyed drinks and had photos made by portrait photographer Thomas Petillo.

This is the 10th year for Arkansas Shorts and there were nearly 400 people in attendance. That's the largest crowd so far, Hill said. The event included three blocks of short films, with no film longer than 10 minutes.

The blocks were International, North American and Arkansas Made. Expecting won the juried prize for Best Short for 2017 and Throwers won the Audience Choice award for 2017.

Low Key Arts is a community arts organization which also hosts the Valley of the Vapors Independent Music Festival and Hot Water Hills Music & Arts Festival.
