Face Off Allstars: Special effects competition returns
Face Off Allstars: Special effects competition returns

Fans of Face Off take heart. The award-winning series is returning with an all-star season at 8 p.m. Tuesday on Syfy. Sixteen returning contestants will enter the ring for a shot at a $100,000 grand prize and bragging rights as Hollywood's next great special effects artist.

Host McKenzie Westmore returns along with contest mentor Michael Westmore (Star Trek), and judges Vi Neill (Beetlejuice), Glen Hetrick (The Hunger Games) and Neville Page (Avatar). Special guests for the season include director John Landis (The Blues Brothers), writer and director Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil) and producer Suzanne Todd (Alice in Wonderland).

Throughout the competition, a group of prosthetic makeup artists will produce movie-quality makeup, use green screens in their concepts and do double-concept transformations. In each episode they will face off in a "Spotlight Challenge" and then apply full makeup to match a theme, over the course of three days. The weekly winner will receive an advantage in the next week's Spotlight Challenge, and one artist will be sent packing.
