Arkansas woman accused of stabbing boyfriend to death

SMACKOVER — Police said a Union County woman has been arrested after she admitted stabbing her boyfriend to death.

Nelda Tatum, 56, is scheduled to make her first appearance today in District Court on a charge of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 68-year-old Bobby L. Bell.

Smackover Police Chief Michael Fife said Bell suffered a single laceration that severed an artery behind his left knee. The body will be sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for an autopsy, Fife said.

At about 3:45 p.m. July 3, Smackover police responded to a report of a stabbing on Magnolia Street. Bell was pronounced dead at the Medical Center of South Arkansas.

Bell and his girlfriend, Tatum, were visiting friends at the Magnolia Street residence when an argument started, Fife said. The situation escalated and Tatum retrieved a knife and cut Bell, witnesses told police.
