About 200 service men and women in dress uniform and civilians in suits and gowns enjoyed a fun-filled evening raising money for Camp Alliance. The event, Boots and Bowties, was July 14 at Four Points by Sheraton.
Camp Alliance helps connect military units with community partners, said Executive Director Jody Bergstrom. The partners, local businesses, corporations or other organizations adopt a military unit and help pay for family day events, special recognition events, military unit gear and day camps for dependant children. She says they gave away $5,000 during the festivities. "It was $1,000 to five different military units/family programs [affecting more than] 4,000 service members with that money," Bergstrom said.
The evening began with a cocktail hour where partygoers could play a variety of casino games and bid on silent auction items while enjoying finger foods and libations. A poolside program began with a color ceremony with a color guard from American Legion Post 71 in Cabot and the Pledge of Allegiance. A fashion show featuring clothing from Culture Clothing Co. and Glaze Clothing Boutique was also held poolside. Dancing and more casino play rounded out the evening.
The event raised more than $6,500 for Camp Alliance, which will go toward the Adopt a Unit program.
