The Frank and Barbara Broyles Foundation teed off the second annual Drive and Dine for Dementia golf tournament on July 14 at Paradise Valley Golf and Athletic Club in Fayetteville.

Forty teams competed in the four-man scramble with the team of Brennan Sharpe, John Bissonnette, Tyler Harper and Doug Moore taking top honors. The green Broyles Foundation Championship trophy and a green Broyles Foundation Championship jacket -- a la The Masters -- were presented at that evening's dinner at the Fayetteville Town Center.

The Broyles Foundation "provides counseling, training and resources to caregivers in crisis at no cost." Spokesmen tell me they plan to add more support groups for those struggling to care for someone with dementia and caregiver training for both professional and family caregivers in Northwest Arkansas and the nation.

That same evening, the Arts Center of the Ozarks in Springdale celebrated the first night of Kiss Me, Kate with its annual Opening Night Gala. The event included heavy hors d'oeuvres and drinks before the show and a champagne intermission.

The nonprofit organization gave opening night guests a sneak peek at the upcoming season, revealing plans for productions to include Sense and Sensibility in October and Driving Miss Daisy in March.

Among those kicking off the Kiss Me, Kate run were Tareneh Manning, Taruna and Scott Bolding, Sarah and Zach Brothers, Cathy and Jim Crouch, Lynn Donald Carver, Carolyn Sadler, Greg Sadler, Debbie and Mike Luttrell, Cindy and Roland Weber, Sarah Cobb and Josefina Michelini.
