FAYETTEVILLE -- Donald Judges has been named vice provost for distance education at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, the university announced Monday.
Judges, 62, began serving last year as UA's interim leader for distance education. He stepped in for Javier Reyes, who left to become dean of the business college at West Virginia University.
"The role of online education is becoming an increasingly vital part of the University of Arkansas' ability to reach and teach people all across our state and beyond," Jim Coleman, UA's provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, said in a statement. He said Judges "has been doing an outstanding job."
Judges also continues as a faculty member in UA's law school, having joined the faculty there in 1989. Judges earned a law degree from the University of Maryland and a doctorate in psychology from the University of Tulsa.
He earns $257,500 as of July 1, when the appointment took effect, UA spokesman Steve Voorhies said. Reyes earned $238,810 in a dual role overseeing distance education and serving as an associate dean in UA's Sam M. Walton College of Business.
