What's in a Dame

Think your taste buds have tried it all? Nope!

Frankly speaking, this culinary creation confuses us.
Frankly speaking, this culinary creation confuses us.

Once again we chew on the latest freaky food news.

PUT ON THE DOGS

First daughter Ivanka Trump recently celebrated the sixth birthday of her daughter Arabella. On the party menu? Skewers of hot dogs topped not with mustard, but marshmallows(?). Trump shared the photo on Instagram with the caption "Keeping it healthy" with a winky emoji.

When it comes to melty campfire concoctions involving marshmallows, for once, we don't want s'more.

ON THE SAUCE

Tabasco has introduced its hottest sauce to date, even spicier than its chipotle, sriracha and habanero versions: Scorpion Sauce. "Not for the wary, this sauce is nearly 20-times hotter than our Original Red Sauce," says Tabasco's website about the sauce that features "a combination of scorpion peppers blended with guava, pineapple" and blends "untamed heat and a touch of Caribbean sweetness." But folks don't fear the Scorpion's sting; it's already out of stock online.

This hot sauce is selling like hot cakes.

SPUDS OR DUDS?

Lay's is back with its annual Do Us a Flavor promotion. After seeking flavor submissions, they've announced three finalists: Crispy Taco, Wavy Fried Green Tomato and -- because America clearly needs breakfast chips -- Kettle Cooked Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese.

The flavor with the most votes will remain on grocery shelves. Want to participate? Visit dousaflavor.com to chip in.

TWISTS ON TWIX

Mars is introducing three new versions of its Twix candy bars that feature a cookie center. Twix Dark, with caramel and covered in dark chocolate, is hitting shelves now. Twix Peanut Butter, with peanut butter instead of caramel, will join the lineup in September. And Twix White, with caramel and white chocolate, will roll out in November.

Those all sound fine, but let's stop now before you go all Oreos-outrageous on us, OK, Mars? Don't get it Twix-ted.

GOLDEN ARCHES STARCHES

Bloomberg last week reported McDonald's restaurants in some cities are testing items to increase business between the slow hours of 2 to 5 p.m. From the article: "To lure more midafternoon customers, McDonald's Corp. is rejecting its recent health-food kick and rolling out the sweets: croissants, muffin tops and a new sundae-topping station for ice cream lovers."

Eat all that, and we're sure to increase the size of our McMuffin tops.

NUGGET OF NEWS

Chick-fil-A is winging it, test-marketing some fresh products, including family-style meals and two alternate sides. The family pack would feature an entree, two sides and mini rolls to serve a coop of four. And the two experimental side items are -- drumstick roll -- macaroni and cheese and baked beans!

We'd expect these concepts to "cluck" with diners. After all, these new ideas are every other chicken joint's old ones.

GLAZED OVER

We "doughnut" quite get this collaboration between Krispy Kreme and Jelly Belly. Do we really need Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles jelly beans -- and in August when Easter is long over?

Just because there are jelly doughnuts doesn't mean there should be doughnut jelly beans.
