LITTLE RED RIVER (GREERS FERRY TAILWATER) Drift fishing is fair to good with one hydropower unit generating using large weighted nymphs and San Juan worms. The river is clear and fishing has been good on the 12-hour schedule by staying ahead of the rising water. Size 16 nymphs and size 20 midge pupas have been good on the lower water.

BUFFALO RIVER The Buffalo National River is high but navigable. The water is muddy, but smallmouth bass are biting at tributary mouths.

CROOKED CREEK The creek is high, swift and stained. Smallmouth bass are biting in shoals and along sheltered banks out of the main current.

BULL SHOALS TAILWATER Bull Shoals Lake is 30.6 feet above seasonal power pool of 662 feet, or 2.4 feet below the top of flood pool. The Corps of Engineers opened 17 flood gates. This makes the White River unwadable, but drift fishing for big brown trout is excellent. Weighted lines are essential to get baits deep. Big stick baits work well in the transition zones where stained and clear water meet.

NORTH FORK RIVER Floodwaters have reconfigured the North Fork. Some traditional holes are full of gravel, but new holes have been created where fish are biting well on small midge patterns (sizes 18, 20, 22) like ruby midges, root beer midges, zebra midges (black or red with silver wire and silver bead) and soft hackles (sizes 14, 16) like the Green Butt. Egg patterns also have been productive. Double-fly nymph rigs have been very effective. Try a small bead-headed nymph (zebra midge, Copper John or pheasant tail) suspended 18 inches below a brightly colored San Juan worm (hot fluorescent pink or cerise size 10). The fishing is better in the morning.

SPRING RIVER Fishing is very good, and the Spring is a great destination when water is high on the White and North Fork rivers. The hot flies have been olive Woolly Buggers with a bit of flash (size 10), cerise and hot pink San Juan worms (size 10) and Y2Ks (size 10).

CATHERINE Rainbow trout fishing is good now that fish that were forced downstream by heavy flows have returned to the area below the dam. Bank fishermen are catching rainbows on redworms and nightcrawlers fished just off the bottom with a marshmallow floater. Wax or meal worms also are working well used in the same manner.
