Little Rock School District director honored at Better Hearing and Speech Month event

Cassandra Steele, director of special programs for the Little Rock School District, was the honoree at Jazz & Juleps on May 25 at the Clinton Presidential Center.

Each May, during Better Hearing and Speech Month, the event honors a person who has been an ambassador for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology and to the local communities with hearing and speech disorders. The honorees are lauded with an endowed scholarship in their name.

Steele served as the coordinator of the school district's Speech and Hearing Services and is a graduate of UALR's audiology and speech pathology department.

Guests enjoyed music by Mojo de Jazz during a cocktail hour before the program. Guests were welcomed to the event by department chairman Amyn Amlani. Craig O'Neill served as auctioneer for a live auction which included a private dinner party for 10 at the home of chef Peter Brave; a getaway to Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and a bike ride for four with cyclist Leah Thorvilson.
