Another vote

It turns out voters in Pulaski County were also heard from last week. They extended a tax of 14.8 mills another 13 years to raise more than $66 million to redo Sylvan Hills High School.

If you've seen Sylvan Hills High School lately, you know why. The place is so packed it can't even take freshmen. The ninth-graders from that part of the county have their own campus five miles away near Gravel Ridge.

Sylvan Hills High was built in 1967--to hold 850 students. This past year, the school's enrollment was 1,422.

Taxpayers do what they have to do, in Pine Bluff or Sherwood, Ark., but first they have to have confidence in their leaders. Either at town hall or at the school board's district offices. Last week proved, at least a couple of times, that voters think their leaders have chosen the right paths.
