Star of soap, singer of 1982 smash hit plays Hot Springs

Rick Springfield will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday in Timberwood Amphitheater at Magic Springs Theme & Water Park in Hot Springs. Season tickets (plus tax) are $69.99; adult one-day tickets are $54.99; and tickets for children under 48 inches tall and attendees 55 and over are $36.99. Reserved seats are an additional $10 or $8. Parking is $10.

The Australian-born Springfield has achieved equal fame as a singer and an actor. He was a cast member of the soap opera General Hospital for years and occasionally returns to the show. His most recent acting credits are roles in the CW series Supernatural.

In 1982, he won the Grammy Award for best male rock vocal for his hit single, "Jessie's Girl." He has released 19 albums since his 1972 debut, with his most recent CD, Rocket Science, released in 2016.

Esme Patterson, along with opening act Adam Faucett, will perform at 9 p.m. today at the White Water Tavern. Admission is $12.

Patterson, formerly of the Denver folk pop band Paper Bird, moved to Portland, Ore., when she opted for a solo career. Her first solo album was All Princes in 2012, followed by Woman to Woman in 2013 and her latest, We Were Wild, in June 2016.

An Evening With Crystal Mercer will be held at 9 p.m. Friday. Admission is $10.

Mercer, a Little Rock native, is known as a performance artist, poet, activist and businesswoman.

Runaway Planet will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5.

Mark Bilyeu, along with opening act The Wildflower Revue, will perform at 8 p.m. today at South on Main in Little Rock. Admission is $10.

Bilyeu, a former member of Big Smith, is now a part of The Creek Rocks duo with Cindy Woolf. The Wildflower Revue consists of singer-songwriters Amy Garland, Mandy McBryde and newest member -- replacing Bonnie Montgomery -- Cindy Woolf.

Rodney Block and his Collective will perform at 9 p.m. Friday. Admission is $15. The show will focus on "The Original Kings of R&B."

Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, along with opening act Andrew Leahy, will perform at 10 p.m. Saturday at Stickyz Rock 'n' Roll Chicken Shack. Admission is $15.

Clyne, a native of Tempe, Ariz., first drew praise as a member of The Refreshments, who had a hit single, "Banditos," and the theme song of the animated TV series, King of the Hill. He has been called the "Springsteen of the Southwest" by Bruce Springsteen's hometown newspaper, the Asbury Park Press.

He has released a dozen albums since leaving The Refreshments, starting with Honky Tonk Union in 1996. His latest, Native Heart, was released earlier this year. Clyne also developed and promotes his own brand of tequila, "Mexican Moonshine."

Sons of Texas, along with opening act Hell Camino, will perform at 8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10.

JP Soars will perform at 8 p.m. today at The Big Chill in Hot Springs. Admission is $10.

Soars began his career playing heavy metal music but switched to blues, and in 2009, he won the Albert King award for most promising guitarist at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, where he and his band, the Red Hots, won the top honors in the competition.

His latest CD, released in 2014, is Full Moon Night in Memphis. He is also a master of the gypsy jazz guitar style made famous by Django Reinhardt and also plays a homemade cigar box guitar.

Country singer Sammy Kershaw will perform an evening of songs and stories at 8 p.m. Saturday at The Delta School in Wilson. Admission is $75.

Kershaw, a native of Kaplan, La., has released 15 albums, debuting in 1991 with Don't Go Near the Water. His latest release, The Blues Got to Me, came out in 2016.
