Sons find parents dead in sunroom in Fort Smith

FORT SMITH -- Police were investigating Friday what they suspect was a murder-suicide involving a husband and wife.

Officers found the bodies of a 55-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman in the sunroom of their home in the 3000 block of Willow Cove about 12:30 p.m., according to a Fort Smith police news release.

Each had suffered a single gunshot wound, and a semiautomatic pistol was found on the floor near them.

Police were called to the home by the couple's sons. The sons had been unable to reach their parents on the phone and went to the residence to check on them, the release said. They reported that all the doors and windows were locked and they could see their parents inside the sunroom at the back of the house.

The investigation was ongoing Friday.
